Mary Cronin RGN RM SECM

I am married with 2 children and live near Kinsale. I qualified as a midwife in the UK in 1984. I returned to Ireland in 1994 and set up my own practice. I have been assisting mothers to birth their babies at home for over 25 years.

Since 2001 I have been working with the HSE (Health Service Executive) and attend births both at home and in hospital. I work in Cork city and county, and usually within 30km of the city.

Testimonials

On the 22th of December 2017 we have a home birth happening with midwife Mary Cronin.

I just want to write to somebody in HSE to say that this Home Birth Service is absolutely brilliant ,

Mary was super helpful and attentive to my partner, She was very professional and full of advice throughout the labour and weeks after the birth. We are well impressed with the Service overall and we think that some form of recognition of her services should be in place.

The only thing is that i think Home Births should be more advertised to the Public as we heard of it through word of the mouth first.

I would like to thank HSE again for the option of Home Birth and say that our baby girl doing fantastic and all is well.

Keep up the good work Guys. Marcin and Kinga, Cork City

I would like to compliment all the midwives and staff involved in the Home Birth service in Cork.

I recently gave birth to a daughter, at home, delivered by Mary Cronin. I am really impressed and delighted with the level of care, support and attention I received throughout my pregnancy, labour and post birth. Mary is fantastic at what she does. And the whole service is very well organised and personal.

I would love to see the Home Birth option publicised more within the hospital. I believe it would suit many more women than currently avail of it. I only realised it was an option when I read the small paragraph about it in the CUMH maternity guide magazine.

I found that being at home for the birth, attended to by a midwife whom I already knew, made it a stress free process for me and my family.

It's such a great option for uncomplicated births that it is a shame most mothers are not even aware of the existence of this service.

Special thanks to Mary, (who is brilliant!) and best wishes to everyone involved in the programme. Catherine, Kinsale

I have to complement this service and Mary Cronin in particular. Antinatal care was excellent and continuity at this vulnerable time was very beneficial. Support during birth couldn't have been more ideal as it was mother led and at home. Most importantly for me, follow up care was excellent. Breastfeeding difficulties were supported above and beyond expectation.

Sincere thanks to all those making home birth a possibility in Cork. Aideen, West Cork
